inital planning ideas
When creating a trailer an initial idea is needed, to ensure that when filming and coming up with more ideas they are not totally off track. Even though this plan may change when filming it allows us to have a clear idea and goal in mind. We used an animation programme called Powtoon to show all our ideas neatly. Powtoon has the same ease as a power point yet if offers high quality animation. This will looks at the main planning elements of our trailer - plot, main casting, costumes, location and names for the trailer. Each point mentioned within this clip are further explained in text below to ensure we all have the same idea.

target audience
we have chosen the age rating 15 for our horror , this will allow us to have a larger audience.
Areas such as; strong violence, frequency strong language, portrayals of sexual activity, strong verbal references to sex, sexual nudity, brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence, discriminatory language or behaviour and drug taking are allowed. However all of these areas must not dwell on detail and must not encourage violent and anti-social behaviour. Therefore we will still be able to create a realistic trailer under these guidelines. |
news
Our inspiration to create this type of horror came through many news stories, there are no well known horrors with this type of plot therefore there is an opening in the market. The two most well known cases of this happening in real life are the cases of Dr Shipman and Ian Paterson.
Dr Shipman is a well known serial killer who qualified as a Dr however killed his patients through a lethal injection, the video below shows a small biography of his life.
Ian paterson's case is very similar to that of Dr Shipmans, he was a Dr who caused women to undergo unnecessary mastectomies. This case is more recent as it came out this year, with this being in the current news it means that people will be more afraid and our horror will be more effective.
plot
When filming this will be the outline we will follow:
- Girl gets hit by her mum while playing doctors (Dr's flashback)
- Victim books for plastic surgery
- Day of surgery - Victim walks into the waiting room - gets locked in a forced to watch a welcome video
- Welcome video switches to show what the doctor has done to other peoples faces
- Doctor drags lady into surgery room
- Victim gets defaced and arm branded with a number
- The doctor keeps a part of the body as a trophy
We will later create a storyboard with more in depth information about each scene and shots that will be used.

locations and lighting
The main locations in our trailer are a young girls bedroom, waiting room/reception and a surgery room. The young girls bedroom will need to look old and ruined to create an eerie atmosphere. A classroom or meeting room will be used to create the waiting room and the nurses office or a room covered in plastic will be used for the surgery room. The nurses office will give a more professional look, however since the doctor will need to look crazy it may be better to create a more DIY look in a room, to show how unprofessional the doctor really is.
The use of lighting will allow the shots to look more scary, it will be important that all areas are dimly lit and lights are used to focus on the main characters and props. We will be able to film during the day as all of out main locations are inside therefore we will be able to close blind and make the room look darker.
main casting
There are two main roles within our trailer which are, The Doctor and the victim. Each main part will be played by a female as this will go against theorists as the killer is normally a male, making our trailer more unique. The main victim will be played by Rachel and the Doctor (killer) will be played by Caitlin.
Other characters in the trailer will be a young girl and an lady to play the mum, for the flashback of the doctor getting hit as a child. There will also be other victim featured all with different surgery. Each character will have to look the correct age so that the story is more convincing. |
costumes
The main characters in our trailer will be the victim and the DR. It will be important that the doctor's costume is covered in blood and looked old and used as that will disturb the audience more. The victim will be mainly seen in a hospital gown, this will need to look realistic so it will captivate the audience more.
Other costumes will be used within the trailer such as normal clothes that the victim will be wearing when she first books the appointment, and a suit that the receptionist will be wearing. It will be crucial that all the costumes look realistic as it will help make the trailer more life-like. |
make-up
As our sub-genre is a slasher it will be important to have realistic make-up when shooting to give a better overall affect. The main SPX make-up looks that suits our plot are: Chelsea grin, sewn up mouths, burns and scaring. We will have to look up effective ways of how to create these looks as they will play a vital role in our trailer.
