why we need a story board
A story board is crucial when filming a trailer, when creating a storyboard you should include sketches of shots, angles as well as the length of each shot.It means you can keep to the set shots you've planned to film and helps to keep to the story line and plot, meaning you won't waste your time filming unnessacary shots which would ultimatley waste time. A storyboard also means that you won't miss out any shots when it comes to filming as the shots you need are clearly shown. Below are examples of story boards which capture all of the key elements of a story board.
basic story board
Below is a basic story board of our trailer, displaying pictures of various shots and locations we want to film. The basic plot to our trailer is as follows, the trailer follows the story of a young girl who is abused by her parents and ends up with a scar on her face from the physical abuse. Due to the torment she has experienced she grows up to become a plastic surgeon who deforms her patients as a form of revenge for what she had been through. Obviously because we are only filming a trailer and not a complete film we are only filming parts of her story.
angles and shots
In our trailer it is crucial that we include a variety of key angles and shots to ensure we portray the themes and characters correctly. For example a birds eye view and high angle are going to be used to show the dominance and power of the plastic surgeon. This contrasts to the worms eye view and low angles from the patients point of view to show their helplessness and lack of power. Mid shots and over the shoulder shots are going to be used to show conversation between characters. Furthermore, close ups are going to show the SFX in detail, to add to the gore element of our horror.
FINAL IDEA
Our final idea we kept the idea about a plastic surgeon, we decided that it would be best to include the voice and images of a little girl and how she grows up and turns into a killer. Our trailer starts off with the camera viewing a crime scene. The voice over starts talking about the body of a victim within the Gloucester area. This sets the location for the trailer and it also shows that straight away people have been killed. within the trailer there is a transition between what the killer looks like now compared to what she looked like when she was younger, this suggests that from a young age the girl has always had hate and anger.
