It is crucial to have a script when filming any sort of trailer so we can avoid improvisation. it also sets the story and includes key dialogue to make sense of the story, scripts give an insight into plot, themes and characters. Below are some scripts from the horror films which we used in order to gain inspiration when writing our script:
Below is our script for our horror trailer. Scripts must include a number of important components such as:
- Names of actors
- Stage directions
- Locations
- Sound effects
- Edit notes
SCENE 1
(Caitlin sat on sofa in library, she is ringing the plastic surgeon to enquire about lip fillers, this shot cross cuts to audio of Emma - The surgeon, with shots of her digging in the woods and various shots of her victims)
Emma: Hello, transform cosmetic surgery, how can i help you?
Caitlin: Hi, i'm just ringing to enquire about cosmetic surgery.
Emma: Yes that's fine, what kind of cosmetic surgery were you interested in?
Caitlin: Lip fillers
Emma: Okay that's no problem, could i just take some contact details so i can book you in for a consult? Could i take your name please?
Caitlin: Yes it's Caitlin Hall.
Emma: Brilliant, I have a slot available on Thursday at 10 am if that works for you?
This particular piece of script will be placed at the very start of the horror trailer. The dialogue itself seems fairly innocent and nothing said in the dialogue suggests anything is off or wrong. This will contrast with the images on the screen which will be of the surgeon digging in the woods, dragging a body and various other gruesome shots of horror. It shows how the victim does not know she is getting herself into a problem as at this point she suspects nothing is off, as a result the audience fears for her.
We actually decided that this conversation was too dull and gave too much away so instead decided to come up with a different script split into two components:
NEWS READER: The body of 19 year old Sarah Williams has been found in a field in the village of Churchdown. A report suggests she was sound with multiple lacerations to her neck and face; her death is now being treated as suspicious. Police believe that Sarah's death may be linked to the disappearance of 9 other is the Gloucester area. So it begs the question, where are they?
CHILD: When I grow up, I want to be a surgeon. Surgeons make people pretty. She looks perfect. My mummy says I'm not pretty. Sometimes my head makes me do bad things.

The news reader matches the establishing shots of the trailer, giving the audience a sense of context and a bit of an introduction. The childs voice then contrasts from the gore shots as children are normally sweet and innocent, yet this is contrasted in our trailer. Children voices also give a creepy and eery feel to the trailer.
