It is important to include a variety of different locations in our trailer in order create different moods and atmosphere throughout. We chose to include locations that would link to key themes and characters in our trailer.
location 1 - kill room
A large section of our trailer is filmed in the kill room, a room where we have covered the floor, walls and ceiling in white plastic. The plastic not only links to the themes of surgery and clinical but the colour white contradicts the typical horror stereotype that location should be dark and grungy. The white also provides a nice contrast to the red blood throughout. We made the kill room look similar to a horror doctors surgery by placing a bed in the middle of the room, as people normally have a fear of the doctors and dentist this would make the trailer even more scary. The kill room is also a place with no visible doors or windows which gives the idea of their being no escape.
location 2 - field
Another location we chose to film is in a field as it is a isolated and open location, with no one around to help. This conforms with Wes Cravens theory of victims being more vulnerable in an open space. A field is also quite a simple landscape so the greenery creates a contrast to the red blood used. Filming outside does give a restriction on time of day to film due to the lighting but the natural lighting makes the shots really crisp and you don't need to worry about artificial lighting.
location 3 - bedroom
A bedroom is usually seen as a safe space which is why it is often used as a location in horror; this therefore makes the horror even more terrifying for the audience as what is seen as a safe space becomes unsafe. The horror therefore becomes relatable and relevant as the audience can see these events happening in their own home. Filming indoors is also good as it allows flexibility when it comes to what time of day to film as you do not need to use natural lighting.
location 4 - field murder scene
The location of a field for a murder scene gives a sense of isolation, making the murder victim look eve more isolated. It also gives the feeling that there is no one around to help. A field also provides a blank canvas for vital objects in the location such as police tape. The natural lighting in a field is also great for making your shots look very crisp and clear, you don't need to use artificial lighting.
location 5 - white background
The location of a white background is simple and plain, meaning full focus is given to the person in front of it. We thought using a white background was ironic and contradicted stereotypes as normally horror is very dark and gloomy. This location also fitted nicely with our surgical theme, giving a sterile and clinical feel. The white also contrasted to the blood seen in later shots.
